How to use the advance tax calculator

1

Estimate your annual income

Add salary, business or professional income, rent, interest and capital gains you expect for the whole financial year.

2

Enter TDS already credited

Pull the figure from Form 26AS or the AIS. Advance tax applies only to the liability that TDS does not already cover.

3

Pay by each due date

Follow the instalment schedule shown. Paying the cumulative percentage on or before each date keeps Section 234C interest at zero.

Advance tax FAQs

Who has to pay advance tax?+

Anyone whose total tax liability after TDS and TCS credit is Rs 10,000 or more in a financial year. Resident senior citizens aged 60 or above with no income from business or profession are exempt, however much they owe.

What are the advance tax due dates for FY 2026-27?+

15 June 2026 for 15% of the liability, 15 September 2026 for 45% cumulative, 15 December 2026 for 75% cumulative, and 15 March 2027 for the full 100%.

How is interest under Section 234C calculated?+

It runs at 1% per month on the shortfall in each instalment: three months for the first three instalments and one month for the March instalment. A safe harbour applies at the June and September dates, where paying at least 12% and 36% respectively avoids the charge.

What is the difference between Section 234B and 234C?+

Section 234C penalises deferment within the year, instalment by instalment. Section 234B charges 1% per month from 1 April of the assessment year until the tax is paid, when total advance tax paid falls below 90% of the assessed liability.

How does advance tax work under the presumptive scheme?+

Taxpayers under Section 44AD or 44ADA pay the whole liability in one instalment by 15 March. The June, September and December dates do not apply to them.

Can I adjust TDS already deducted against advance tax?+

Yes. Advance tax is computed on the net liability after subtracting TDS, TCS and any foreign tax credit. Check Form 26AS and the AIS before you compute so nothing is double-counted.
